Taylor’s Gift: A Courageous Story of Giving Life and Renewing Hope

On March 15, 2010, 13 year old Taylor Storch’s life came to a tragic end.  While on a ski vacation with her family in Vail, Colorado, something went terribly wrong.  Now Taylor is gone and her parents are faced with the question, “Would you be willing to donate Taylor’s organs?”

They knew that Taylor’s caring, sacrificial spirit required them to answer this question with a resounding “yes”.  They understood that through their daughters death others could have life.  They also believed that with her death, others would be able to live and that a part of her would continue to live on as well.  Over the next 2 years Todd and Tara met and developed relationships with four of the five recipients of Taylor’s Gifts.  Through these relationships, they have witnessed the blessings Taylor’s Gift has brought to their lives and the lives of others.

In Taylor’s Gift, Todd and Tara Storch (with Jennifer Schuchmann) tell the story of their daughters life, death, and the family’s struggles to move through and beyond their grief to acceptance, healing and life after loss.  They share how their decision to donate her organs, meet many of the recipients of those donations, and cofound Taylor’s Gift Foundation has changed their lives and given them purpose in spite of the pain.

Taylor’s Gift story is not just their story or Taylor’s story.  It is the story of all of the lives that have been touched by Taylor’s death and the purpose that Todd and Tara found through it.  It is the story of each person who, along with their families, friends and loved ones, has received the gift of organ donation because of Taylor’s Gift Foundation.

This book is a remarkable testimony to the Storch family’s hope and faith in God.  Because of this, they were able to look to God to find purpose in their loss.  They have the hope of eternal life and the joy of knowing that they will one day be reunited with Taylor.  This hope is given testimony in this quote from Taylor’s Gift, “But the greatest gift we’ve received through the journey didn’t come from Taylor.  It came from God.  The gift of hope.” (Todd and Tara Storch)
